Together, we brought dreams to life, whisking away little black and brown girls to witness the captivating tale of Disney's, 'The Little Mermaid.' Little did we know that this experience would create a magical tapestry of belonging, inclusion, and empowerment, leaving an indelible mark on all our hearts.
As the silver screen unveiled its ethereal magic, a breathtaking sight emerged—Halle Bailey, a black actress, gracefully portrayed the iconic character of the Little Mermaid. The sheer beauty of this representation transcended imagination, allowing these girls to catch a glimpse of themselves in a story that had long been confined to distant shores. For far too long, young girls of color have yearned for a place to belong within the enchanting narratives weaved by mainstream media.
