Marshelle Smith
Hello, I am Marshelle Smith, a second year Bachelor of Science nursing student at Knox Community College in Jamaica.
My academic journey began with a love and passion to help animals as a child which later blossomed into curiosity of the human body and the desire to care for people. I have always shown a natural aptitude for the sciences so, I immersed myself in subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Physics during my high school tenure at Lennon High school. After graduating high school, I struggled to finance my tertiary education, so I sought employment. While working I was constantly encouraged by those around me, so I pressed forward even after deferring my first acceptance to college. My passion for patient care intensified when I was employed at the Health Center in my district. There I gained hands-on experience, interacted with the diverse patient populations and learned from experienced nurses and doctors.
Acquiring the Delpha J. Lowe scholarship will influence my education and future goals in many ways than one. Firstly, it will ease my financial burden allowing me to focus on my studies without having to worry about the possibility of putting a pause on my studies. Secondly, receiving the scholarship would empower me to pursue my goals with a more positive attitude. It would also be a reminder that I'm working hard, and nothing is unattainable.
The Delpha J. Lowe scholarship donors, it is with a heart full of gratitude that I express how thankful I am for being one of the recipients of this scholarship. It is an honor and a great milestone in my life to have been considered worthy of this scholarship. Thank you for believing in my abilities and for supporting my journey.
To future scholars, welcome to the community of scholars where you will never walk alone. You will forever be a part of a supportive network of scholars. Let this scholarship serve not only as a financial aid but as a reminder of your brilliance, hard work and resilience. Remember to be grateful and lift your head above all negativity, rise up and strive for excellence. All the best on your academic journey. It only gets better from here.
